Blue River The Blue has been fishing excellent in the tailwater section through the town Silverthorne and all the way to Green Mtn. Reservoir as of 5-8-08. The flows are up to the 500 level. This means that some good amounts of Mysis and other food is being washed down stream. Watch for some feeder streams that can muddy up the conditions. Even with off color conditions the fishing has been quite productive! Patterns to use below the dam are: Mysis, Flashback Hares Ears, Pheasant Tails, Black Beauties, Flashback WD-40s, Pearl and Black Cardinal Midges, San Juan Worms, Egg Patterns, RS IIs, Brook's Sprout Midges, Goldies, Black Beauties, Mercury midge patterns, Miracles and tiny Parachute Adams. Fishing North of Silverthorne, some good patterns to use are: Copper Johns, Pheasant tails, Stoneflies, Caddis Larvae, Black Beauties, Tungsten Black Beauties, Hares Ears, Prince Nymphs, San Juan Worms, Egg Patterns, Barr's Emergers and more. Lower Colorado River The Colorado River below Gore Canyon is looking beautiful! Time to break out the boats and get a float in! The fishing has been good as if 5-8-08. We floated again on the 5-04-08 with good conditions and fish counts. The fishing was actually quite good with good color to the water. Good amounts of BWO's on the water and various other inscets hatching. Few Caddis, Stones and other Mayflies. The water has been varying in clarity as warming trends arrive this spring, however. The best time to fish this water is during a cold front or just after it moves through. This will give you the clearest conditions. So there is a possibility of some dry fly fishing. Nymphing and streamer fishing has been the way to go, however. Try using: Stoneflies, Phesant Tails, Prince Nymphs, Copper Johns, Chartruese Copper Johns, Barr's Emergers, WD-40's, Egg Patterns, small Flashback Pheasant tails, San Juan Worms, Skunk Buggers, Autumn Splendors and more. Keep an eye out for Blue Wings you never know when you can get that epic spring dry fly day! South Platte River The South Platte on the Dream Stream is fishing excellent as of 5-8-08. Spinney is open! Get out there! The Rainbows have been moving up out of Eleven Mile for their spawn so look for fish stacking up! Also look for Big Carp in the inlet of Eleven Mile for a different experience. Try stripping bugger through the mudding Carp! They are a hoot! On the river, the flows have been up and this means some good amounts of food in the river! Nymphing been the most productive. Try using Olive Flachback WD-40's, Barr's Emergers, Pearl and Black Cardinal midges, Small PT's, Small Copper Johns, Egg Patterns, San Juan Worms, Miracle midges, Black Beauties and more. Also look for midge hatches and use Brook's Sprout midge patterns. The ice is also off the river above Spinney! The clarity has been muddy but during and after cold fronts it should be running clear enough to fish. Now is the time to look for those pigs running out of Spinney. Try using San Juans, Egg Patters, Stoneflies, Prince Nymphs, Pheasant tails and more larger attractor patterns!
